WHAT'S NEW IN PCXDUMP VERSION 9.00
----------------------------------
For those who are curious, Version 9.00 of PCXDUMP
contains the following additions and improvements over
previous versions
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Version 9.00 - New installation menu with "shortcut" keys.
- New options: /MEMORY, /MONO, /STEALTH.
- The /ANIMATE, /AUTODIRTY, /AUTODUMP, /TIME and /DISK op-
tions are removed.
- It is possible to store permanent installation options in
the environment variable PCXDUMP.
- UMB and EMS usage to reduce size of PCXDUMP in conventional
memory.
- PCXLAB will print B&W images to HP LaserJet compatible
laser printers.
- The /TEXTHI option is removed, since it turned out to be
possible to determine automatically.
- New switch: /BATCH: When this option is used, PCXDUMP will
not write a status screen after installation.
- Better frame movement when using the keyboard.
- BUG FIX: It is now possible to use the /DIR= option with a
path longer than 25 character. Before PCXDUMP simple hung
(oops)!
- Plus LOTS more.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Version 8.10 - New switch: /SKIPVESA. You can use this option to bypass
the check for a VESA driver.
- New switch: /NAME=name. You can now tell PCXDUMP to use
another name than DUMP????.PCX for its dump files.
- Much better check for textmodes. The registered version
of PCXDUMP will now handle any textmode, also CGA 40x25.
- PCXDUMP will now use the current textmode for the
installation screen, instead of always switching to 80x25
mode.
- Reduced the PCXDUMP.EXE file size significantly.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Version 8.00 - New switch: /MOUSE. PCXDUMP can now be activated by
pressing two mousebuttons.
- New switch: /VIDEO=number. Will force PCXDUMP to use the
specified videomode.
- New switch: /ANIMATE=number. PCXDUMP will automatically
dump the screen every number'th second.
- New switch: /TEXTHI. When dumping a textscreen, this option
toggles between 8 or 16 possible background colors.
- New switch: /GAMMA=number. This switch replaces the /LIGHT
option and provides much better control over the intensity
of the dumped image. Will only have an effect when dumping
a grayscaled imaged (hotkey G or H).
- New switch: /OVERWRITE. PCXDUMP will no longer overwrite
existing DUMP????.PCX files, unless you tell it to.
- New switch: /AUTODIRTY. This switch works almost like the
/AUTODUMP switch, just in a much dirtier way.
- Recognizes and dump images in 4/8/15/16/24 bit VESA modes,
up to 1280x1024! (VESA 1.2 required for 15/16/24 bit
modes).
- Detection and usage of OAK-77 (also Hicolor) cards.
- Detection and usage of MXIC cards.
- Detection and usage of REALTEK (also HiColor) cards.
- Usage of HiColor modes on ATI cards cards.
- Usage of HiColor modes on Paradise cards.
- Usage of HiColor modes on Trident cards.
- Detection and usage of 24-bit DAC on some Tseng 4000 cards,
like the Genoa 7900 cards.
- Bug fix: On some video cards, it was not possible to use
the /CHIPSET option. Fixed.
- Bug fix: When dumping 1024x768 or 1280x1024 screen with 16
colors, noise would sometimes show up in the dumped imaged.
Fixed.
New program PCXLAB (replaces PCXVIEW).
--------------------------------------
* Shows any PCX-file on any EGA/VGA/SVGA system (except
EGA mono).
* Recognizes the same SuperVGA chipsets as PCXDUMP (incl.
HiColor).
* Converts PCX-files to EPS/BMP/LBM/TIFF/TGA/WPG.
* Dithers 4-24 bit PCX-files to monochrome PCX-files (you
can adjust the contrast and gamma value of the output
images).
* Will show PCX/ANS from commandline.
* Will write monochrome PCX (up to 640 pixels wide) to a
EPSON-compatible matrixprinter.
* It is possible to set video mode selection to autodetect.
* Will show .ANS (ANSI-files).
* When showing big pictures, you can scroll the images
around FAST! by using arrowkeys or PgUp & PgDn. You can
change the resolution WHILE viewing by using "-" or "+".
Note however that you can not show/convert files wider
than 3800 pixels.
* With the proper VESA-driver, PCXLAB can show images in
4/8/15/16/24 bit modes up to 1280x1024 (VESA v. 1.2
needed for 15/16/24 bit modes).
* Detects and uses the 24-bit DAC on some Tseng 4000
HiColor, like the Genoa 7900.
* You can reduce 4-24 bit PCX-files to grayscale, or you
can reduce 8-24 bit PCX-files to 16 or 256 colors.
* Better check on memorysize on Trident cards.
* Detection and usage of OAK-77 (also HiColor) cards.
* Detection and usage of MXIC cards.
* Detection and usage of REALTEK (also HiColor) cards.
* Usage of HiColor modes on ATI, Paradise & Trident cards.
New program TESTVESA.
---------------------
* A small program to check which VESA driver is installed
(if any), what version the driver is and which modes that
are supported.
